Our Story

From a Dream to
Your Doorstep

CJ's Street Treats is more than a bakery — it's a love letter to Japanese confectionery culture, planted right here in Pittsburgh.

How It All Started

CJ's Street Treats was born from a simple idea: bring the magic of Japanese street food desserts to Pittsburgh. Inspired by the yatai (street food stalls) of Tokyo and Osaka, we wanted to create something that captured that energy — the sizzle, the sweetness, the joy of discovering something new.

What started as a passion project making mochi for friends and farmers' markets has grown into a full cafe, bakery, and mini factory. Every recipe is crafted with respect for Japanese tradition and a Pittsburgh twist that makes it uniquely ours.

Today, we're proud to share our treats with dessert lovers across the country — from our kitchen in Pittsburgh to your table at home.

Our Garden

We believe the best desserts start with the best ingredients. That's why we grow our own produce right here in Pittsburgh. Our garden supplies fresh herbs, fruits, and botanicals that find their way into our seasonal specials.

From shiso leaves for our summer mochi to yuzu for winter treats — our garden connects Japanese culinary traditions with Pennsylvania's rich growing seasons.

It's farm-to-table meets Japanese confectionery, and we think that's pretty special.

Our Approach

Three principles guide everything we make.

🎌

Authentic Recipes

We study traditional Japanese confectionery techniques — from mochi-pounding to wagashi shaping — and honor them in every batch. No shortcuts, no substitutes.

🤲

Handcrafted Always

Every mochi is shaped by hand. Every cookie is portioned with care. We're a mini factory, not a mass producer — and you can taste the difference.

💛

Community First

Pittsburgh is our home. We source locally when we can, partner with neighborhood businesses, and believe that great food brings people together.

Why "Street Treats"?

In Japan, the best desserts aren't always in fancy patisseries — they're at the yatai, the humble street stalls where vendors pour their heart into every piece of taiyaki, every stick of dango, every freshly pounded mochi.

CJ's Street Treats channels that spirit: exceptional quality, zero pretension, pure joy. It's Japanese street food energy, Pittsburgh-style.
